Link round-up for 2 October 2016

Hillary's victims may include the Loch Ness monster.

How did he get through?

Check out the art of "Cthulhu Wars".

Getting what you want isn't always so simple.

This is me.

Not much risk of vampires going anywhere near these (found via Mendip).

Underneath Kent, UK, is a tunnel decorated with a mosaic of 4,600,000 shells.  Nobody knows why.

How fallen are the mighty.

There's a good reason why you don't remember the Staten Island ferry disaster of 1963 (found via Mendip).

Isn't that a Sex Pistols album?

Learn what makes a bad book cover bad.

Remember Stan Winston, maker of a hundred monsters.

Heh.

Stars hatch from EGGs.

Science doesn't require belief.

Crap film wins crap award.

Which "other planets", specifically?  This doofus is not making the case for third parties.  Voting for him would be absurd.  But at least cartoonists win.

This may be the stupidest person on the face of the Earth.

Grisly casts preserve the last moments of the people of Pompeii.

An old nuclear bunker in Poland holds a strange, eternally-dying ant society (found via TYWKIWDBI).

It just gets worse -- Wells Fargo has been screwing over the military.

A high divorce rate can be a good thing.

Look at what your god isn't doing.

This person exists, and will vote.  And these people are ready to go full treason if they don't like the outcome.

HB2 is costing North Carolina a lot.  And you just know these people voted for it.

Good cops need to call out bad ones.

Basic Income would not mean the end of work, assuming employers aren't assholes.

Here's another view on the question of voting-machine hacking.

People aren't going to put up with this shit forever.

Wingnuts don't much care for the new black American history museum in Washington.

Fair and Unbalanced looks at birtherism's weird roots.  And Bernie has a point to make.

Texas has scandalous maternal-mortality levels -- and is trying to hide the problem.

Yes, it's possible for millions of people to be bigots.

Republicans were wrong about raising the minimum wage.

Let's make sure they never get a chance to fire that third shot.

This person exists.

The Daily Beast may have endangered some Olympic athletes.

Bernie's older brother is in politics in the UK.

Here's an interesting US-Australia comparison.

The land of Trump's ancestors wants nothing to do with him.

Trump has no clue how large our relationship with Mexico is.  Spending some time there?  Try a glass-bottomed bungalow or a serpent condo.

Must-see interview of the week:  King Abdullah II of Jordan expresses a realist's view of dealing with Islamist extremism (found via Comrade Misfit).  Jordan, population just eight million, has taken in more Syrian refugees than any European country.

AK-47-toting Syrian granny Wahida Mohamed Al-Jumaily has no mercy for Dâ'ish (ISIL).

This is real (it's China).

Learn about the turtle ships of 16th-century Korea.

In 1562, Christian fanatics destroyed almost all the written records of an ancient pagan culture.  We're still trying to reconstruct it (found via Lady, That's My Skull).

PZ Myers has a good example of what junk science looks like.

There's a bizarre alien world underneath Romania.

Crazy Eddie has some great nature videos from award-winning films on orangutans and other animals.

Arctic ice is now at its second-lowest extent on record.  And August 2016 was, yes, the hottest August ever.

Can anyone verify the authenticity of this photo of young Trump and his parents? [UpdateNot real -- thanks to Comrade Misfit in the comments.]

Paul Wartenberg has commentary on the debate.

Hillary needs to keep making Trump run off at the mouth.

Here's one view of the debate (found via Comrade Misfit), and here's how to make the next ones pleasanter to watch.

Vote for Hillary -- lives depend on it (lots of good further links there).

This is what we'll be empowering if Trump wins.  And he's allied to an anti-abortion extremist.

Hillary has a not-so-secret weapon.

The right-wing media are accepting reality too late.  Now Republican leaders feel trapped in a nightmare.

Some fundies have their reasons for backing Trump-- even if their explanations are a bit weird.

Figured to browse through some of your links this morning Infidel ... the only good news on the tele this morning was Kim Kardashian getting $10 million dollars worth of jewelry robbed from her at gunpoint ... good score ... wish it was my score! {:-) ... (I'll try to keep this shit under 4000+ characters {:-)

I had no idea of the Staten Island Ferry octopussy story, I rode the ferry myself several times ... back in the old dayz, old schoolers like my mom alwayz called it the "Nickel Ferry" (kidz called it the "$5 faggot)

Dont need to have belief in "science"? ... Thanx for letting me know ... I wasted years BELIEVING in science {:-)

Cthulhu artwork was pretty impressive

That Shell Grotto was absolutely awesome ... I been to Kent too, had no idea of it

Texas mortality levels of babies, no secret from me, I kept up with it, it should get worse too, is my guess, it wont be too much secret for long. You can see why I voted for Wendy Davis too over Abbott ... him, the Lt.Gov and Atty Gen. are so hardcore, they make folks like Perry and G.W Bush look like liberal progressives.

Artic Ice Melt ... it's just the TIP of the "iceberg", it's gonna get alot worse ... watch.

Yeah, I knew about Larry Sanders ... best of luck to the man

Plaster casts of the Pompeii victims ... they had a documentary I seen on the tele a couple years about that (cant remember the damn name of it though?) ... but interesting seeing, because it shows the stories of their last hours.

I dont usually eat chips as part of my diet, but wouldnt mind trying a few of the Halloween black garlic chips to taste, I love garlic, but I eat it raw since I was a kid, my mom told me she had to spank me for catching and eating live spiders as a child and raw ground beef, something I sure as Hell wouldnt do as an adult! Halloween decorations went up with many of my neighbours since the last week of September, they start early here {:-)

Christians destroying ancient Pagan Culture? ... what's new? ... like those ISIS characters ... if it's literature or art, they had a history of destroying it all ... why not go after all the nudity in Michael Angelo's Sistine Chapel?

... anywayz, have a good un Infidel

Thanks for the encouragement, everyone. The link round-ups are actually fairly easy -- with my mind clearing up but physical mobility still severely limited (and being off work, of course), I'm spending more time on the internet than ever, and having all the more chances to run across items of interest.

The Christian Conquistadors who ravaged the Americas, like the Crusaders before them, were the ISIL of their time -- but far more dangerous since they were able to conquer much more territory. The losses they inflicted on the world were horrific.

The Trump Klan photo is false.

But given that both Trump and his dad engaged in housing discrimination, it wouldn't be terribly surprising.

The Cthulhu War artwork was interesting, if occasionally a little disturbing. Interestingly, one of the scenarios depicted - people using a nuclear weapon to try and stop Cthulhu - actually occurred at the end of a novel called The Trail of Cthulhu, which was written by August Derleth, a "protege" of HP Lovecraft who continued writing Cthulhu stories long after the latter individual's death. Funnily enough, there was a time (back when I was a lot younger and going through a period of being bored with pretty much everything) when I hoped there was some truth to the whole Cthulhu mythos, as the idea of unspeakable Lovecraftian horrors lurking just behind the facade of normal, everyday life seemed incredibly exciting (my feelings were probably not dissimilar to those of Christian fundamentalists who like to think of themselves being constantly engaged in "spiritual warfare" against dark, unseen forces). Of course, as those artworks make clear, a world in which Cthulhu and his minions actually existed would be a nightmarish one indeed! Definitely a case of "be careful what you wish for!"

BTW, glad to hear your surgery was a success and that you're doing well.
