Halloween

Scary costumes and decorations just aren't what they used to be.  With bubonic plague, Windows 10, another godawful Star Wars movie, and Donald Trump running for President, what terror can ghosts and witches hold?  Perhaps part of why Halloween is becoming so popular is that its traditional spookery is an escape from the drearier horrors of reality.  In that spirit, a few offerings:

Gothtober has Halloween-themed art for every day of October.

Crooks and Liars suggests 60 horror movies for Halloween -- some classics here!

Ranch Chimp collects some creepy art and videos.

Check out these photos from El Día de los Muertos, Mexico's Halloween.

Jezebel has two collections of spooky mini-stories.

From my own files, some scary pictures and the origin of the holiday.

And, of course, there are always the usual party-poopers.

I been to the celebrations in Mexico years back, loved the chicks how they were made up! Tell you one of the best I been to ... back in the 1990's went to a "Alien Sex Fiend" concert in a warehouse district, the girls had some of the most best looking outfits and face designs I have ever seen, and that band is really a great Halloween type band as far as stage performance, check em out sometime, they're out of UK. It has been raining here in Dallas all day yesterday and night and still is, Weather forecast sayz it will clear out by tonight though ... maybe the Goddess (Jean Bardot ... my Goddess) is rewarding us for a change after all the flood punishment, eh? This morning is of course the scariest, having been flicking through the various news channels on the tele/ cable ... and all this crap about Jeb Bush ... not sure what he done?, didnt pause long enough to listen, probably ate a taco or got mad at Trump or something.

That make-up is pretty sharp. Maybe La Catrina will catch on as a Halloween character here in the US too.

Jeb? He just fired off one of the most spectacularly failed zingers in political-debate history. Now I'm hearing he's gonna go all-out to take Rubio down. I love this wingnut-on-wingnut warfare!

I was surprised to read that plague can occur as far north as Oregon; I always assumed it was restricted to the Southwest. Good to see that it's easily treatable these days, though, and not the public health emergency it used to be.

[...]Windows 10,[...]

Yeah, I've heard some scary stories about that. Sort of makes me glad I'm one of those old stick-in-the-muds who still uses XP. :)

Ah bugger. I was hoping it'd be good.

I remember when I was young and dumb, I went through a period when I hoped the whole Cthulhu mythos had some truth to it (rather than just being the product of HP Lovecraft's disturbing imagination). I think in my case, though, that hope was motivated more by boredom than anything else. Definitely a case of being careful what one wishes for!

On the subject of scary stories, I found a really good one on reddit about a year ago (just after Halloween last year, in fact) called "It was not a tree", which I'd thoroughly recommend. Here's a link if you or anyone else are interested: https://www.reddit.com/r/nosleep/comments/2kz6fp/it_was_not_a_tree/
