Regarding the Guardian article on the Asad regime, I think it's plausible that rogue leaders under Asad (rather than Asad himself) used chemical weapons. It's a chilling thought -- not only is Asad monstrous, but he isn't fully in control of his own government.

Wasps are terrifying in and of themselves, but DRUNK wasps? :: hides under bed in fetal position, sobbing ::

Ahab: Many Third World dictators aren't in full control of their own repressive machinery. It wouldn't even surprise me much to see a military coup against Asad if he shows signs of making concessions to the rebels.

Ranch: The world being what it is, I never run out of material for these.
