Wisconsin

I can't help it -- I'm hanging on whatever crumbs of news I can find around the net.  Yes, the polls have shown the recall losing, and yes, the MSM have been full of stories writing the effort off as doomed, and yes, the Republicans out-spent us almost ten to one, and yes, the national Democratic party has been AWOL (a terrible mistake given what an important constituency the unions are), and yes, the Republicans are up to their usual dirty tricks -- but by all accounts turn-out is shockingly high, and that normally favors our side.  I can't give up hope that, after all, we can take Walker down.

Update:  A bitterly disappointing result, especially after things looked so hopeful earlier today.  The negative fallout will likely include anger toward the national party, which failed to commit resources that could have made a difference.  But let this serve as a reminder for November -- no matter how good things may look at any given time, we can't afford complacency.

Turnout has been extraordinarily high and is expected to hit 119%. They have same day registration.

Barrett was not a union guy and the national Democrats are even less so.

And less every day.

GSG: He would have been a huge improvement over Walker, though -- any Democrat would have been.

LP: And the high turn-out would normally have favored us -- exit polls showed that the voter pool that turned out heavily favored Obama over Romney, for example. For whatever reason, a lot of Democrat-leaners didn't vote Democratic in this case.

An absolutely devastating defeat for all workers and good-hearted, progressive-minded voters throughout the entire country. This is now the land of, by, and for the rich; it ceased being the land of the free a very long time ago!

JJ: Yes, there's no other way to spin it -- backed up by enough money, the parasite class's strategy of dividing working people against themselves (white vs. black or, as in this case, non-union vs. union) can still work. "Divide and conquer" indeed.

Let this be a wake-up call to work like hell for November.

Scott Walker's MO: Divide and Conquer. He's not shy about admitting it.

The conservative SCOTUS delivered this stooge of the Koch Bros., Inc., to Wisconsin, and they have to live with him for another 2 years.

A couple of points....the legislature is out of session and when it reconvenes it will be after the fall elections. The recall replaced one Republican State Senator with a Democrat, giving the Democratic party a majority in the Senate...as well as the Senate having to Republican Senators who are starting to balk at the slam dunk tactics of the Governor.

what may be more telling.... was the recall race in the 13th Senate District where Dem Lori Compas was running against Scott Fitzgerald...the result?
', where Scott Fitzgerald won with 60.4 percent of the vote compared to 38.6 percent for Lori Compas. But in Beaver Dam, it was Compas with 57.7 percent and Fitzgerald with 41.2 percent. Compas also came out on top in the Town of Beaver Dam by four votes.'

the telling part is that Lori campaigned for only 3 months...raised all her own signature petitions, received no State Dem support..and had no previous political experience. Against a Republican who has run unopposed since '94. A novice who gets almost 40% of the vote...in a three month campaign!!! it ain't over

SK: The post-Citizens-United power of mega-money was on display here, no doubt about that. All the more reason to make sure it's Obama and not Romney who makes the next few Supreme Court appointments.

Okjimm: Good point -- the Democratic capture of the majority of the legislature has been curiously under-reported.
