Pretty powerful stuff.

Over the last few weeks, I've wondered if the GOP and its romance with the Middle Ages would be just a blip in the campaign process. But it appears the religionists have unleashed ideas that have resonance with their followers all over the country.

In NH a GOP state representative has suggested that married couples use abtinence or condoms for birth control if they can't afford other means of birth control, such as the Pill.

The state governments of Oklahoma, Texas, and Virginia have inserted themselves into women's vaginas, and Iowa is on course to outlaw abortions in any circumstance.

Meanwhile, the unctuously sanctimonious Santorum is on the campaign trail comparing Mr. Obama to Hitler and his spokeswoman called Mr. Obama's environmental policies "radical Islamist policies" policies, later, trying to say she "misspoke" and actually meant "radical environmental policies" policies. Because everyone knows that when it comes to the environment, it's so easy to conflate the terms Islam and environment.

Hard to disagree when Santorum is doing so well with that part of the base that actually bothers to vote in the nomination contests -- or answer polls, apparently.

Gosh, how romantic :-( There's a scene in 1984 where the totalitarian state spokesman is describing the regime's vision of the future, and one of the things he says is, "We shall abolish the orgasm. Our neurologists are at work on it now." Today's Republicans increasingly give me the impression that they wish they could eradicate sex completely, or at least make it pleasureless.

The state governments of Oklahoma, Texas, and Virginia have inserted themselves into women's vaginas,

I've been reading about this stuff -- it's unreal, or rather surreal, like some Twilight Zone alternate-reality scenario. This is no longer that party of Goldwater, it's the party of Caligula.
