A report from the real world

Many people have been making sweeping statements about how well or badly things are going in Iraq. Here's the view of someone who's in a position to actually know what he's talking about.

Patraeus is a puppet.

I see he used the word "surge" quite a bit in his beginning remarks. From what I hear most military personnel have up to this point referred to this tactic as an "escalation" of troop numbers and mission objectives and have never used the term "surge" until the White House started using it as a code word so as not to make it sound like "escalation" or build-up.

And speaking of Al Queada and Iranian involvement...if the dumb asses had listened to Shinseki, the invasion of Iraq would have been able to secure the borders. But, they didn't want to listen because at the time the army had roughly 350,000 troops and the Marine Corps had 130,000. Shinseki was calling for several hundred thousand boots on the ground in Iraq for the invasion and subsequent security of the country and it's borders. Whatever anybody has to say about Shinseki being off the mark I think we can see the evidence for ourselves.

As I've said before, if Petraeus abd the change in tactics succeed in turning the Iraq conflict around, that does not get Bush and Rumsfeld off the hook for incompetence. If new tactics make the difference, they should not have waited four years before employing them.
